Hortensia Herrero, the president of the foundation that bears her name, has donated three million syringes and hypodermic needles to support immunisation against COVID-19. This medical equipment is intended for vaccination against the virus. The syringes have been delivered to the four mass vaccination centres the Department of Universal Health and Public Health has set up in the Valencian Community: in Valencia in the City of Arts and Sciences; in Alicante in the City of Light; in Elche in the Alicante Trade Fair Institution; and in Castellón in the Auditorium and Congress Palace.
The 1 ml disposable syringes with safety needle comply with medical requirements and are designed to be used in the vaccination process against the virus. Through this initiative the Hortensia Herrero Foundation aims to contribute to the objective of achieving the highest number of immunisations as quickly as possible. This donation has been made thanks to the support of Mercadona.
“I am proud to be able to collaborate and do my bit in the fight against COVID-19. Last year, I was able to help by donating masks and, now, when it seems that we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, I am pleased to be able to provide syringes and needles to help keep the pace of vaccinations on track”, said Hortensia Herrero.
In April 2020 Hortensia Herrero donated one million masks to five hospitals in the Valencian Community to fight against the spread of the coronavirus. Recognising the Foundation’s social commitment, she has gone one step further by offering concrete measures to tackle a serious health crisis that is affecting the health and economic and social well-being of our country.
